پی ال سی مخفف شده (PLC= Programmable Logic Controller) به معنای کنترل کننده منطقی قابل برنامه ریزی می باشد، هر کدام از این کلمه ها برای هدف خاصی نام گذاری شده اند.
امروزه پی ال سی های زیمنس، جایگزین مناسبی برای پنل های کنترل سنتی شده اند. پنل های قدیمی معایب زیادی از جمله وابستگی عملکرد آن ها به رله های مغناطیسی و وابستگی آن ها به تایمر های کنترل صنعتی داشتند. با تولید و عرضه پی ال سی ها به بازار این مشکلات رفع شدند. اصلی ترین وظیفه پی ال سی ها، نظارت دائم بر ورودی سنسور ها می باشد و با نظارت بر داده های دریافتی از سنسور ها برای خروجی ها تصمیم گیری می نمایند.

سیستم PLC چیست؟
اجزای تشکیل دهنده پی ال سی (PLC) زیمنس شامل سه بخش اصلی زیر می باشد:
1- ماژول پردازنده (CPU)
2- ماژول منبع تغذیه (Power Supplies)
3- ماژول های ورودی/خروجی (I-O Modules)
CPU مخفف (Central Processing Unit) و به معنای واحد پردازنده می باشد و وظیف اصلی کارها را برعهده دارد، محاسبات لازم و پردازش تمامی داده های ورودی را انجام می دهد.
واحد پردازنده مرکزی یا همان CPU دارای دو حافظه RAM و ROM می باشد که با دارا بودن این دو حافظه نیاز به برنامه ریزی مجدد و اتلاف زمان نخواهد بود، این حافظه ها برای داشتن عمر طولانی نیاز به منبع تغذیه دارند که تامین آن کار راحتی می باشد.
